Here is a just a flavour of what serious sports stars and more casual athletes alike will find at Ireland’s universities:
University of Limerick is known as Ireland’s sporting campus. Amongst the stars to have trained there are the Munster Rugby team, Paula Radcliff, Usain Bolt and Gráinne Murphy. The university has a host of pitches available as well as a gym and 50 meter Olympic sized swimming pool.
Trinity College provides top class sporting facilities in the heart of Dublin city centre. Why not try the fantastic climbing wall or take a dip in the modern new pool?
University College Dublin is the official headquarters of Leinster Rugby. It also has a newly opened Olympic sized swimming pool and tepidarium. Throughout the campus are many natural grass and synthetic pitches and a range of excellent indoor sporting facilities.
University College Cork’s indoor running track which is climate controlled, is ideal for team testing in a standardised environment. There is also a pool and climbing wall on campus.
Dublin City University is home to some of the most advanced sports performance research in Ireland. But there is something for all levels of participant, including a swimming pool, fitness centre and many natural grass pitches. DCU is home to the National Tennis Training Centre and has one of Ireland’s finest high performance gyms which have catered for Irish Rugby and English Soccer teams in the past.
St Patrick’s College & NUI Maynooth may be known for its beautiful and historical campus but it also provides a host of modern sporting facilities. For example, it has a range of synthetic all weather pitches.
For something different try rowing or kayaking at NUI Galway. There is also a 6-lane, 25-metre swimming pool and state-of-the-art fitness centre facilities available at the university.
